The Reader is the largest alternative weekly newspaper in town and a local institution, providing residents with news, events, and opinions for over 45 years. Over time, the San Diego Reader has evolved from its humble origins as an alternative weekly newspaper into a digital marketing agency, social media presence, and event coordinating organization, collaborating with the community to provide fun celebrations of San Diego culture.
The San Diego Reader is currently located in Golden Hill, an up and coming neighborhood just east of downtown San Diego. The Reader office moved to Golden Hill in 2012 from Little Italy and was immediately smitten with the historic neighborhood. That is why when the idea for Tacotopia first started to develop, hosting it in Golden Hill Park and actively working to give back to the community was a prerequisite.
Since the first Tacotopia in 2015, the San Diego Reader has been in direct collaboration with The Greater Golden Hill Community Development Corporation (GGHCDC), working to help our neighborhood continue to grow and thrive. Tacotopia is a fun event to eat tacos and drink beer, but it is also a celebration of San Diego that directly gives back to the community and the people that make our town so special.
