Tacos in the house
Celebrating its 50th year in business in 2019, Casa Don Diego has served breakfast, lunch, and dinner to Chula Vista for generations. The family-owned restaurant’s family-friendly atmosphere and authentic Mexican fare have created a place for parents to bring their children, and since 1969, those children have grown up and come back with their own kids.
The family owned restaurant is known for its fire grilled arrachera steak, which is marinated in orange juice and Mexican beer. Taco fans may order the arrachera wrapped corn tortillas, the three tacos served with roasted peppers and delicious refried beans. But that’s only one way to enjoy beef tacos at Don Diego. Another is the classic, shredded beef barbacoa tacos, the hearty beef simmered in savory spice and served with a spicy, zesty BBQ sauce.
Fish fans can opt for the San Diego favorite, Baja style fish tacos. Casa Don Diego’s tacos de pescado feature tender filets of beer-battered pollack, fried to crisp perfection. But for the same price you can indulge in a pair of tacos gobernador: spicy shrimps wrapped in tortillas with melted cheese. They’re the sort of tacos you tell your grandkids about.
