City Tacos & Tortilla N Taco Factory
As Tacotopia demonstrates every year, San Diego is America’s finest city for eating tacos. And over the past four years, a huge part of that has been the presence of City Tacos. The owner and chefs of City Tacos travel throughout Mexico to find inspiration in the best street taco destinations in the world; places like Oaxaca, Mexico City, and of course Tijuana.
They come back and introduce San Diego to a world of flavors and techniques to its locations in North Park and La Mesa, plus a new sister restaurant, Tortilla N Taco Factory in El Cajon. You’ll find tacos including the chorizo asada, made with grilled chorizo, caramelized pineapple, and melted Oaxacan cheese on a fresh corn tortilla. Or the Guadalajara-inspired Birria de Res, featuring sirloin beef stew on a grilled corn tortilla. The list of gourmet ingredients are fresh, every time.
City Tacos’ unique taco creations extend to seafood tacos as well, like the Atun Fresco: raw ahi tuna, green apples, cucumber, Serrano chiles and toasted peanuts on a crunchy fried flour shell; and vegetarian takes such as the Coliflor: sauteed spinach, cauliflower, green beans, and arugula on a jicama tortilla.
Expect more than 20 distinctive tacos during any visit to City Tacos, and expect to come back four or five times at least: because you can’t go wrong here, and you’ll definitely want to try them all!
